It feels as if every time a new Crocs collaboration comes to light, the Colorado company is further pushing the bounds of what their ineffable Clog can support. We’re barely recovering from the surprisingly seismic Bape Crocs collection, yet the easy-on imprint is striking while the iron is hot, now enlisting English menswear brand Barbour for the Crocs latest link-up.
Long an icon of British utility-wear, the international rise of gorpcore aesthetics has been a windfall for the heritage fashion house, making this an opportune moment to widen its scope with a range focused on the iconic Classic Clog. Consistent with Barbour’s most everlasting jacket style, waxed cotton coats the mudguard, toe and midfoot strap of the shoe, while its plaid lining appears in the space between. A fitting final flourish comes with the corduroy “Sport Strap,” adapting the collars frequently seen throughout their outerwear catalog.
While much of this imagery and aesthetic allusions are stripped away for the Classic Boot, instead capitalizing on a simpler plaid and olive arrangement, including the galoshes is only natural given how London’s rainy climate informs the Barbour product line. Speaking of, the Jibbitz include allusions to that very concept, beginning with a “Wet Weather Wear” badge and continuing through co-branded stamps and a depiction of the Crocs mascot in English fisherman attire.
The Barbour Crocs collection releases on April 1st. The Classic Clog retails for $80 while the Classic Boot commands a $80 retail price. Check out detailed images of both pairs included below.
