The Nike Air Max 1 Low Poly “Donkey Kong” Releases On Air Max Day

A tribute to one of the most iconic games of all-time.

The Nike Air Max 1 Low Poly “Donkey Kong” Releases On Air Max Day

Nike submerged itself into the world of Low Poly gaming graphics with the Air Max 1, debuting last September with the help of super-streamer Kai Cenat. With pre-order window for that sneaker open and closed in October and shipments due for Air Max Day 2025, Nike is already look ing to the next chapter of the Air Max 1 Low Poly with the help of one of the most iconic Low Poly video games in history.

Ostensibly inspired by Donkey Kong Country for the Super Nintendo gaming console, this Air Max 1 features some of the game’s distinct ephemera with some Swoosh touches. On the insole are coins that read “DS” for Dot Swoosh, a spin-off of the DK coins that were scattered around the world of Donkey Kong Country 2. Further cementing itself as a Donkey Kong tribute is the Low Poly banana icon as well as the low-res logo on the tongue.

Official images of this Nike Air Max 1 reveal Light Chocolate brown mudguards and quarters in suede have been paired up with a University Red Swoosh logo and Hem touches to complete the colorway. The official nickname of this release is dubbed “Big Head Origins”, further suggesting the connection to the memorable video game.

A release date is confirmed for March 26th, 2025 or $160, positioned to be the big Air Max Day drop of 2025.
