Updated February 16th, 2025: The Air Jordan 5 “Grape” released early at Jordan Brand’s activation in San Francisco. Those who attended the experience had the opportunity to purchase the shoes ahead of the Summer 2025 release. Currently, the shoes are expected to drop on April 19th.

Jordan Brand is betting it all on 2025 and their line-up of retro releases. With the confirmation of all-time classics such as the Black Cat 4s, Air Jordan 1 “Bred”, and even the recent release of the Black Cat 3s, the Jumpman is looking to regain the trust of its loyal followers with the reissue of some of the most celebrated Air Jordans in history. Among them: the Air Jordan 5 “Grape”.

Originally releasing way back in 1990, the Grape Jordan 5s were among the earliest off-colored pairs in the budding Air Jordan legacy. Drifting away from the Chicago Bulls team-matching formulas, Nike began offering up its chief signature shoe line in new color styles to broaden the reach of the Jumpman.

On a cultural standpoint, the Air Jordan 5 “Grape” may be best noted for its many appearances on television, particularly the hit show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air starring Will Smith.

A History Of Air Jordan 5 “Grape” Releases

After the original release in 1990, the Grape Jordan 5s didn’t come back to retail until the year 2006. This first-ever retro release gained a lot of attention from sneaker fans despite the lack of a Nike Air logo on the heel and the infamous paint cracking on the midsoles. The shoes released again in 2012, but not without complaints directed primarily at the bulky shape of the toe-box. A laceless version of the shoe dropped in 2018 as a tribute to the aforementioned relevance to the hit 1990s sitcom.

The 2025 release of the Air Jordan 5 “Grape” promises true-to-original shape, which in this day and age of the Jordan Retro, is more important than ever. The images below reveal a first look at the upcoming shoes.
