From Italy to the world: The story of the 47 brand caps
How it started: In 1938, Italian twin brothers Henry and Arthur D'Angelo emigrated to America. There they lived in the shadow of Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox, and sold newspapers for two cents at a street stand. However, they quickly recognized the passion of fans of American sports teams - and so at the age of 12 they started selling sports fan items such as pennants for 25 cents. Clever!
Hard to believe, but true: This laid the foundation for the Twins Enterprise brand, which the brothers founded in 1947. That same year, the twins opened the first American merchandise shop in the building across from Fenway Park. And due to its continued success, more and more shops were added over time. On top of that, Company 47 began producing baseball caps, which quickly became a symbol of the fan cult.
How it's going: Arthur's four sons are now co-owners of the brand, which has been called simply 47 since 2015. Today, '47 produces caps for countless teams in the US leagues - from the NBA, NHL, MLB to the NFL. The brand also supplies caps to more than 600 colleges and, as a licensed partner, produces apparel such as hats , crewnecks and dugout jackets.
