Unveiled in mid-August, the New Balance WRPD Runner (read: Warped Runner) has been quietly delivering retrofuturist style over the last several months. As 2024 inches closer, the minimal, but chunky silhouette will release in a black and brown color combination.
Officially dubbed “Dark Mushroom/Driftwood/Black,” the sneaker’s color scheme is a departure from the grayscale arrangements often associated with New Balance. Yet, a brief look at all of the in-line WRPD Runner options that’ve launched since summer reveals the model is keen on experimentation. The lifestyle-oriented design draws inspiration from the Boston-based company’s heritage within the performance running space, but reimagines it for the future. Nontraditional, exaggerated lines throughout the shoe deliver a simple and refined aesthetic that flirts with the past. Some components from the New Balance archives have also been referenced on the shoe. Underfoot, the “N”-branded design offers a “warped expression” of the company’s marquee running technology: FuelCell. Found in pairs like the New Balance 991v2 and handful of race-ready/training footwear, the sole unit complements the upper’s bold look. Color-wise, its black and brown makeover also falls in line with the suede and mesh build up-top.
Enjoy official photos of the pair ahead. The WRPD Runner “Dark Mushroom” arrives to newbalance.com on December 20th with a price tag of $150 USD.
