As told by the hosts of Nike’s most recent SNKRS Showcase preview, indoor soccer shoes are playing a big role for the Beaverton brand in 2025. The Total 90 III stirred up a good deal of excitement upon its return to market in February, and while a bit more under-the-radar, the Nike Gato has been slowly trickling out in essential colorways. Now for something new, the Nike Gato is taking on an attention-grabbing “Liquid Gold” colorway for Summer 2025.
One of two metallic looks alongside a “Chrome” Nike Gato, the underlying aesthetic skews toward that of retro Y2K-era soccer boots (although the Gato debuted in 2010). Joined layers of “Metallic Gold” leather make up the exterior, taken with quilted stitching over the toe and triangular cutouts around the quarter Swoosh. Matching “Metallic Gold” mesh peeks through on the underlays and tongue, while brown gum tread rests underneath a Cushlon foam midsole.
If you’re plugged into current sneaker trends, Nike’s decision to bring back the Gato isn’t hard to decipher. Alongside the Total 90 III, the sneaker is intended to compete with the adidas Samba, PUMA Speedcat, and other trending models in the soccer-turned-lifestyle shoe space. Previous Nike Gato revivals include a stint under the Nike SB banner, a decision pushed by skater Alex Olson who opted for a Nike SB Gato over signature sneaker.
The “Liquid Gold” Nike Gato will land via Nike SNKRS and boutiques during the Summer 2025 shopping season, implying a release window between April-June 2025. Budget for a $110 box price if you’re considering copping a pair.
