With Joe Freshgoods’ “Aged Well” project now in the rear-view mirror, the New Balance 992 resurgence is officially underway. We’re getting all the “core” colorways, more collaborations with familiar partners like KITH, and for our purposes; new styles by NB creative director and Aimé Leon Dore founder Teddy Santis. This “Mushroom” edition is one of them.
The design aligns with newly-unveiled 997 and 990v6 colorways with a palette of “Mushroom/Moonrock,” maintaining a familiar, tonal aesthetic while asserting uniqueness texture swaps. Nubuck, hairy suede, and smooth suede paneling wrap a mesh base, accentuated by reflective New Balance logos on both sides. Most of the design favors the grey “Moonrock” hue, with titular “Mushroom” playing a supporting role on the tongue and heel. Honing in on those areas, the cut-out tongue window features horizontal lines as opposed to the standard synthetic underlay.
Currently, the New Balance 992 Made In USA “Mushroom” is expected to launch on March 27th; stay tuned to our Sneaker Release Dates page for firm, official updates.
