The question flares up with every new Bape Sta release: when will we see the iconic model shift its hardware to befit the settlement from their lawsuit with Nike? Footwear moving on a year-in-advance schedule means we may still be waiting a while yet for a full-scale overhaul of the model, but we’re beginning to see the very first tweaks, ushered in with croc leather and timeless “White On White” hues.
As we noted in our coverage of the accompanying “Panda” colorway, there are a number of hardware changes. Most notably, the topmost overlays are given curved edges, resulting in an ovalline cutout at the quarter that diverges from the Air Force 1. While the inspiration from Bruce Kilgore’s design is undeniable, it’s equally apparent that the Bape Sta is shifting to rely less singularly on that shoe’s construction.
Choosing the “coke white” arrangement to let in the new hardware is a savvy move, allowing the material to truly speak for itself on a classy overall profile. Further, it allows some of the more underrated aspects of the model to take center stage, including distressed eye-stays towards the collar and the chrome dubrae that sticks out from the lace unit. The design truly reaches a peak with a zoological combination of the Bape gorilla head at the heel, truly submerged among a sea of rectangular croc panels.
The Bapesta “White On White” releases on November 23rd via BAPE channels, carrying a $300 retail price. However, select retailers including Sneaker Politics already have this pair in stock — use the links under “Where To Buy” to grab yours.
