EXCLUSIVE: First Look At The New Balance Fresh Foam BB v3

New Balance hosted a media-exclusive press preview in New York on October 29th, showcasing new and upcoming product slated to hit shelves in 2025. Among new models on display was the New Balance Fresh Foam BB v3, the latest edition of the performance basketball series. Sneaker News is pleased to provide a first look at the new hoops shoe as well as some of the colorways consumers can expect to hit shelves.

While the Fresh Foam BB line continues to favor a mid-top height, almost everything about the v3 is different from its predecessor. Gone is the topographic-inspired midsole, replaced here by a new structure featuring a midfoot plate and embossed, oval-shaped detailing. That same texture appears on TPU overlays up top, with durable mesh peeking through rounded areas. Perhaps the most notable change pertains to the outsole, which features split-up instances of wavy tread as opposed to the radial pattern of the v2. Full performance specs haven’t been made public at this juncture, but aesthetically speaking, the shoe gives of a somewhat retro feel akin to performance models of the 1990s and 2000s.

A brief history of the Fresh Foam BB line; the first version came in 2023 and received some positive reviews, although many reported problems with its shape, materials, and implementation of Fresh Foam Cushioning. The BB v2 arrived at the top of 2024 as a true upgrade, maintaining the strong-suits of the first effort while remedying its issues. Time will tell how hoopers respond to the third model in the series, but it’s worth noting that New Balance basketball shoes have only gotten better since the Boston brand revived the category in the late 2010s. New Balance athlete Zach Lavine of Chicago Bulls has been the Fresh Foam BB line’s NBA ambassador since its inception, and that will of course continue with the new model.

New Balance plans to release several Fresh Foam BB v3 colorways throughout 2025, including the green, burgundy, and pink/purple pairs previewed here. Pricing info and a specific arrival date haven’t been floated at this early stage, but know that this article as well as our Sneaker Release Dates hub will be kept current with all available information over the coming months. In the meantime, enjoy detailed images of all three rollout colorways below.
