Nike Shocks The Air Max 90 Drift With “Volt” Accenting

With initiatives like the LV8 series that brought platformed soles to everlasting Air Max models, Nike has signaled their continuing intentions to bring fresh energy to staple models with central compositional swaps. The start of the year brought the Air Max Plus Drift to the public, a TPU-heavy offshoot that, at the time, was considered to be a simple one-off endeavor. However, as the year progressed, that model is here to stay, and it has been joined by a fresh sibling, the Nike Air Max 90 Drift.

Following a simple formula as the Tn remodel, the Air Max 90 Drift replaces the classic layered mesh and suede composition of the AM90 with far more futuristic fare. The sectioned quarter panel sits entirely flush within itself, maintaining at least the ridged eye-stays but replacing all the intracies with dense TPU. Gridded synthetics towards the toe are contrasted in this colorway by textured fabric underneath the heel, an “analog” touch that stands out amid the next-century composition seen throughout the profile.

From a palette perspective, the utilitarian bend of the Air Max 90 Drift seen on “Light Orewood Brown” and “Grey” is maintained here, but the titular “Volt” adds some flashy flair in the margins. While diverging so starkly from the familiar shape of the Air Max 90 proper is enough to draw attention, this colorway helps redouble that appeal, perfect if you’re looking to break out from the same old Beaverton staples.

Though retail pricing is currently unclear, we’re projecting the Nike Air Max 90 Drift “Volt” to land this Holiday season. Check out official images while you wait via the gallery ahead.
