With the Union Field General through its rollout cycle, the Nike Field General proper is officially back in full swing. Highlighted by an accessible $100 price tag and simplified construction, it’s clear the throwback gridiron silhouette is being positioned as a competitor to dominant lifestyle kicks like the adidas Samba. Don’t look now, but this latest black & gum colorway might prove the strongest opponent yet.
A classic grayscale composition is the choice on the upper, sliding a black contrast Swoosh atop an all-white, all-leather foundation, that material change a first on the model. Additionally, perforations add a textural switch-up on the quarter panel, eschewing the traditional nylon mesh. Nibbed traction defines the underfoot tooling, draped entirely in the light brown “Gum” formula that Nike SB fans know & love. As that earthy touch is a mainstay on Three Stripes offerings from the adidas Gazelle to the adidas Spezial, this shoe all around further casts the Field General in stark relief to those German brand gems.
The Nike Field General ’82 “White/Black” releases on July 26th via SNKRS, retailing for $100. It’s important to note that while SNKRS will host the initial release, each Field General colorway that’s kicked off that way has eventually hit retailers very shortly after.
