New Balance Channels The Early 2000s With Patent Leather 550s

Next up in this Y2K wave is the New Balance 550 mimicking the vibrant an eccentric looks established by A Bathing Ape and the iconic Bape Sta of the early 2000s. Nigo’s influence has come full circle to this fellow 80’s era basketball shoe, appearing for the first time in such high-octane color treatment.

The 550 silhouette typically appears in shades of off-white and grey in leathers and suedes, channeling the decade it was born in. But New Balance transports us to the early years of the new millennium with this daring execution that simply does not shy away from attention.

Two options are arriving soon to the brand’s online shop — a bold pink and red combination with an icy blue midsole, and a second summer-friendly pair that combines neon green, soft pinks, and lemon yellow. Either pair will make an impression if that’s the goal, intended or not.

New Balance will stock these throwback 550s soon; see a closer look ahead and stay tuned for updates.
