An inside look into Nike’s Día de Muertos (Day of The Dead) Collection was released yesterday. According to the release from the company, this pack features specially-crafted models of the brand’s Nike Air Max 90, Nike DBreak Type, Nike Blazer Mid, and Air Jordan 1 silhouettes. The collection also includes coordinating apparel pieces, including tee shirts and hoodies.
The silhouettes’ design motifs draw inspiration from the holiday’s traditional ofrendas, or altars, including the papel picado and flowers typically seen on the altars. The colorways most prominently feature juxtaposing shades of deep pinks and golden yellow tones. The latter hue resembles Marigolds, the traditional Mexican flower. These colors are constructed with oranges, black, and white tones for an eye-catching, color-blocked aesthetic.
Nike’s collection goes back to the idea of family and has some more intricate details including the phrase, “Para Mi Familia,” which translates to “for my family” in English, inscribed on the DBreak Type heel, and toe of the Air Jordan 1 sneakers as well as across the capsule’s tees and hoodies.
These items were released exclusively on Oct. 8 for Nike Members in Mexico via the SNKRS website. The collection’s global release date is set for Oct. 15 and will be available for purchase on nike.com and SNKRS.com.
