Olivia Ponton is Rivet’s latest cover star. The model discussed everything from moving to New York City for her modeling career to publically coming out on social media in 2021 and what it means to be an influencer on TikTok today.
For her cover shot, Ponton was styled in baggy, oversized jeans, revealing the pointed toes of her hidden shoes. Within the rest of her spread, the model wears Jimmy Choo silver metallic mules, Schiaparelli boots, Gucci kitten heels and floral Acne Studios pumps. Each shoe was paired with a different arrangement of denim-based pieces, to reflect Ponton’s style and identity.
Denim is a theme in the issue, with designers discussing denim’s connection to music, but ties into Ponton’s career goals as well. “I really want to book a Calvin Klein campaign,” she told Leigh Nordstrom of Rivet, “I did their Pride campaign last year, but to do a straight-up denim campaign with them would be an amazing dream.”
The shoes chosen for Ponton are indicative of her career: modern and trendy styles from classic designers. Ponton has successfully turned a young start in influencing — she was a member of the Hype House content farm in 2020 — into a professional modeling career, saying of the app “I think it’s grown bigger than any other app on our telephones. I think it is something that, especially my generation, we use a lot to get our news, to get what’s going on in the world.” Patent mules and kitten heels from Jimmy Choo and Gucci are a perfect fit for a TikTok star who appears in Victoria’s Secret and Calvin Klein campaigns.
The model particularly enjoys working with those on the backends of brands, learning the ins and outs of fashion not necessarily seen on a runway or in a shoot. “I love to be on the backend and understand why brands are choosing to do this versus that, and why they’re choosing to work with the people that they are working with,” she told Rivet.
Ponton is using her newfound platform in any way she can, working with brands and charities alike. This summer, she’ll be flying to Tahiti to work with Coral Gardeners, an organization dedicated to protecting and restoring coral reefs to combat climate change. Her cover story is out now in Rivet.
