Marc Jacobs‘ viral Kiki boots are back for the fall season — with an edgy new update.
The towering shoes have just been released in a new $550 ankle-high silhouette, topped by five thin upper straps — three of them made adjustable with small buckles. The round-toed style — as seen on Kim Kardashian in Jacobs’ fall 2023 campaign — features crocodile-embossed black leather uppers with thick platform soles.
Giving the boot its most memorable feature, however, are its base: 6.38-inch flared block heels, providing a height-boost that’s both supportive and dynamic.
Aside from its all-black colorway — which has already been worn by Dua Lipa on Instagram — the style is also available in a stark white hue.
When Marc Jacobs’ Kiki boots made their debut in the designer’s fall 2016 show, Lady Gaga and Kendall Jenner made the footwear instantly viral — certainly thanks to its impactful height, with Jenner deeming them “NOT made for walking” on her blog at the time. However, the towering shoes were re-released in hues of sparkly silver, mixed metallics and more in 2017, drawing stars ranging from Taylor Swift to the cast of HBO Max’s “Girls.”
In the 2020s, however, the shoes, in a full range of colorways, from matte neutrals to tonal pastels, have made a full comeback. Vintage pairs worn by Bella Hadid, Olivia Rodrigo and more celebrities brought the style back into the collective subconscious, with similar shoes selling out online and (in limited quantities) at Jacobs’ Los Angeles boutique.
In recent years, the designer has re-introduced the Kiki in ankle, calf and knee-high shapes in a variety of colors and textures, often seen in his New York Public Library runway shows and star-studded campaigns — and, most recently, in a custom bedazzled iteration for Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour.
The reptilian take on the Kikis shows the shoe’s latest iteration, merging a penchant for supportive footwear with daring, edgy and downright dramatic elements. As for what other Kiki styles Jacobs has in store, however, remain to be seen until future seasons.
