Lady Gaga and Lady Mary Crawley’s closets are now open.
The standout styles from the pop star’s drama “American Horror Story: Hotel” and actress Michelle Dockery’s character in “Downton Abbey,” as well as more TV programs, will be on display at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising Museum’s 10th annual “Art of Television Costume Design” exhibition in Los Angeles.
The dramas received nominations at the 68th annual Emmy Awards for outstanding costume design.
The showcase, free and open to the public, launches Tuesday and continues through Oct. 15.
This year’s Emmy nominees in outstanding costume design categories featured in the exhibit are “Empire,” “Transparent,” “Roots,” “Game of Thrones,” “The Good Wife” and “Outlander.”
The exhibition also highlights exceptional head-to-toe costumes from shows such as “Black-ish,” “Mercy Street,” “The Walking Dead” and more.
The “Jane the Virgin” display included a pair of purple Jessica Simpson pumps and a color-coordinated clutch.
Speaking to Footwear News, costume designer Rachel Sage Kunin shared that the fashion on the CW comedy is inspired by “spring-summer fun” colors.
“Our show, as a whole, is a style moment with a very specific color palette — lavender, purple, teal, blue, fuscia, powder blue, aqua, peach and white,” Kunin explained. “With Jane, I used these shoes to pick up the colors in the dress. Shoes can make or break an outfit.”
Kunin added that Jessica Simpson and Steve Madden are typical brands for series star Gina Rodriguez’s titular character.
“I consider myself a method costume designer — to me, that means you actually shop the price range that your character could reasonably afford,” she explained. “She’s in college now and is in her mid-20s. She’s not going to be shopping at Neiman’s — she’s more of a Macy’s shopper.”
Among the other footwear highlights, a pair of YSL and Top Shop pumps worn by Emma Roberts in “Scream Queens,” Casadei and Manolo Blahnik heels worn by Julia-Louis Dreyfus in “Veep,” and customized shoes for Catriona Balle in “Outlander.”
