Dr. Martens Goes Back to Its Grunge Roots in Second Collaboration With The Great Frog

Starting July 26, Dr. Martens is launching its second collaboration with rock ‘n’ roll jewelry brand The Great Frog.

The collaborative effort is a match made in heaven, given both brands have catered to counter-cultures like grunge, punk and indie sleaze since they were founded. The exciting collection encompasses two Dr. Martens staple silhouettes, the 1460 boot and Ramsey creeper, contemporized along with a handy hardware-heavy satchel.

Both footwear silhouettes receive grungy treatment, fixed with vintage-inspired buckle detailing hand-carved by The Great Frog’s Creative Director Reino Lehtonen-Riley. The Great Frog and Dr. Martens’ co-branding can be found throughout both smooth leather styles. The Great Frog is one of three partners to collaborate on Dr. Martens’ most recognizable creeper silhouette in 2024 as part of its initiative to revive and revamp for a new generation of wearers.

“Since the success of the first DM’s x TGF collection, I’ve been able to explore design ideas inspired by the roots of both The Great Frog and Dr. Martens; the early days of classic British rock ‘n’ roll culture — but reinventing it through a modern lens with a new British youth culture DIY punk aesthetic,” said Lehtonen-Riley.

Founded in 1947, Dr. Martens is a German-founded British footwear and apparel brand with individuality at its core. The company originally began making humble workwear boots and even sold their wear as gardening shoes at one point. The inventor of Dr. Martens Klaus Marten was a doctor in the German Army during World War II. The brand’s name references the inventor’s former profession.

The Great Frog is a London-based jewelry company founded by Carol Lehtonen-Riley and her then-partner Paterson Riley. The brand sells handmade, high-quality jewelry pieces and accessories.

The collaborative effort will be available for purchase starting Friday 26th July on drmartens.com and via select partners.
