Crocs introduced a new Retail Takeback Pilot Program that breathes new life into used shoe styles.
Beginning today, Oct. 27, consumers are encouraged to donate their old Crocs shoes, in any condition, into the brand’s retail stores in specified states. Crocs will then leverage partnerships and product innovation to ensure that each pair donated is put to good use.
The new program aims at combatting fashion waste while helping consumers dispose of their old Crocs shoes. States that are participating in this takeback program include Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, Michigan, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.
Stores accepting pre-owned Crocs will come equipped with a designated collection box so consumers can drop their old footwear off easily. As a thank you for repurposing your old shoes, Crocs is giving out free “Crocs Saver” Jibbitz charms while supplies last.
Gently used Crocs will be donated to key partner Soles4Souls, an international non-profit organization, while well-loved pairs that may be unwearable will be repurposed, upcycled and reimagined.
“We’re excited to take this next step on our path toward innovating for a circular economy and a better future for footwear,” shared Deanna Bratter, VP and global head of sustainability at Crocs Inc. “This pilot program aims to address both environmental and social challenges faced by the fashion industry when it comes to product waste.”
This year alone, Crocs has dropped a myriad of unique silhouettes that often feature playful and inventive designs, expanding its footwear horizons in the process. Crocs has lent its iconic clog, boot and sandal silhouettes to many franchises including everything from video game franchises to food.
The brand has dipped its proverbial toes into the worlds of Pop-Tarts, Crayola, Kanghyuk, Disney, Lisa Frank, Minecraft, Ron English, Pokemon, Levis, Pac Man and Aries in the past. Through these collaborations, Crocs has proved that their silhouettes are extremely versatile.
