Since we’re deep into summer, with plenty of sandal wear still to enjoy, your feet could probably use some pampering. But you don’t have to indulge in a professional spa treatment to relieve those tired feet — there are lots of easy and affordable ways to give them some love at home.
With foot care, it’s best to start before problems begin. Since women rarely wear socks in the summer, blisters and callouses can form, according to Becca Brown, co-founder of Solemates, a line of foot care and footwear products. New to the product offering is its Cobbler’s Couture collection, featuring Blister Blocker, a preventative product that helps minimize friction on the skin, retailing for $10. What makes the product unique, noted Brown, is that you apply it prior to a blister forming.
To keep the wellness experience going, Brown suggests continuing with Freshen, a spray that helps eliminate bacteria in footwear. Mad of natural ingredients, it leaves feet feeling cool and refreshed.
Israeli comfort footwear brand Naot offers a foot cream enriched with therapeutic minerals from the Dead Sea and softening silicone. Its antibacterial tea tee oil disinfects and prevents cracking and itching. A 4-ounce bottle retails for $24.95.
Also tapping into nature is Burt’s Bees, which offers a line of products that, on average, are 99 percent natural. There’s Peppermint Foot Lotion, retailing for $9, that’s formulated to revive tired feet and help soften calluses. For those requiring a pampering session on the go, there’s Coconut Foot Cream in a travel size for $1.99.
For serious at-home foot care, try one of the many battery-operated callus removers on the market. There’s Amopé Pedi Perfect Electronic Pedicure Foot File for $34.95, while rival brand Emjoi’s Micro-Pedi Pro Rechargeable Callus remover, for $69.95, spins 360 degrees up to 47 times a second to gently remove hard and rough skin.
If time is no object, grab a glass of wine and pamper yourself with a Peppermint Reviving Foot Soak from The Body Shop, retailing for $16. It features a Community Trade peppermint oil that imparts a cooling sensation while fighting odor-causing bacteria and Community Trade cocao butter that acts as a moisturizer.
Now that your feet are refreshed and looking their best, finish off the salon experience with some fun nail polish. Choose from this summer’s leading colors, including pale blue, green, pink, white and yellow.
