Daniel Roseberry quite literally dipped his toes into the sneaker world with Schiaparelli’s debut trainer silhouette.

First seen on its spring ‘24 ready-to-wear runway show in Paris last September, Schiaparelli’s first-ever sneaker is an update on the timeless high-top canvas model. Roseberry’s take on the classic is made in ecru canvas and is reimagined with the house’s signature golden trompe l’oeil toes done in brass. The style also features an irregular measuring tape design that adorns the edges of the sole, and a trompe l’oeil footprint is seen underneath the shoe.

“It’s the fantasy of couture made for the street,” Roseberry said in a statement on Friday. “This sneaker is particularly meaningful to me because it symbolizes what I am: an American in Paris. It embodies the meeting of two worlds: American comfort and the rigor of French chic.”

Since signing on as artistic director to the brand in 2019, Roseberry has deftly reintroduced both inner fashion circles and the masses to the wonderful, wacky world of Elsa Schiaparelli, the Italian fashion designer who was once Coco Chanel’s rival and helped to usher in the truly modern fashion of the 20th century.

Accessories have always set the French fashion house apart, and Roseberry continues with its legacy in the avant-garde with bolder-than-ever footwear pieces, anatomically-shaped purses and jewelry. In previous seasons, Roseberry has used the gold toe detailing in platform boots, heels, mules and more.

Schiaparelli’s continuous influence of surrealism lies at the core of the brand as the founder befriended and collaborated with artists such as Salvador Dalí and Jean Cocteau on jewels and accessories back in the 1930s and 1940s. Notably, several of the Italian designer’s original surrealist pieces resurfaced for the label’s fall ’20 show at Paris Couture Week.

Schiaparelli’s Gold Toe Trainers by Daniel Roseberry, which retail for 2,300 euros ($2,450), are now available at its boutique at 21 Place Vendôme in Paris, Bergdorf Goodman in New York, Harrods in London, and Neiman Marcus in Dallas and Los Angeles.
