In the lead-up to the New York City Marathon Sunday, Adidas is dropping a special edition of its top-of-the-line super shoe designed by the Pharrell.
The Pharrell x Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1 “Earth” will release this week exclusively in-person in New York City. The $500 race day model has been given dashes of color from the rapper and Louis Vuitton menswear creative director, as green, blue and brown form the oversized stripes. Blue branding then appears on the tongue, while green is used for the marking on the lateral collar. No label’s call out Pharrell’s involvement, making the super shoe an “if you know, you know” affair.
Adidas launched the Adios Pro Evo 1 just over a year ago and just days before Tigst Assefa wore it while setting the new women’s marathon world record at the Berlin Marathon. (The record was the broken again at this year’s Chicago Marathon.) 11 total marathon runners have since worn the shoe for their races, including men’s runner Sisay Lemma at the 2024 Boston Marathon.
Coming in at 138 grams per shoe, the Pro Evo 1 is the lightest running shoe Adidas has ever made. A paper thin mesh upper helps keep the weight down, as does Adidas’ decision to forgo an insole completely and to apply an ultra-thin outsole to only the forefoot and heel. The Lightstrike Pro midsole, which carries a maximum stack height of 39mm, features a rocker at 60 precent of the shoe’s length and packs carbon fiber rods.
In the lead-up to this year’s Berlin Marathon, Adidas introduced the Adizero Adios Pro 4 and Adizero Evo SL, both of which were informed by learnings from the Pro Evo 1. The former model is also a super shoe, while the latter has elements of both a speed and daily trainer.
Collaborations on super shoes have begun to be more common in 2024, with PaperBoy Paris taking on the New Balance FuelCell SuperComp Elite v4 in the spring and lending credence to the buzzy phrase “running is the new streetwear.”
The Pharrell x Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1 “Earth” will release Saturday, November 2, exclusively at Adidas’ NYC Flagship at 555 5th Avenue in Midtown. Pricing is set at $500.
