Jordan Brand’s 40th anniversary celebration will bring plenty of sought-after sneakers this year, but one anticipated style that was rumored to be released has now reportedly been canceled.
During summer 2024, there were talks that a red colorway of the popular inter-brand collaboration between Nike SB and Jordan Brand on the Air Jordan 4 was due to launch this year. The pair, which was said to feature matching color blocking with the original Nike SB x Air Jordan 4 but replace the “Pine Green” of that iteration with “Varsity Red,” was said to be releasing alongside another new colorway in navy.
An early in-hand look at the navy Nike SB x Air Jordan 4 surfaced in December, all but confirming that the pair is set to arrive at stores soon. However, numerous new reports state that the red colorway will no longer be released, although an exact reason was not provided.
Given that the original Nike SB x Air Jordan 4 was one of 2023’s most significant releases, the two Nike, Inc. brands could be looking to limit the saturation of the sneaker by culling the selection down to just one new pair. The ’23 Nike SB version of the retro Air Jordan shoe featured construction and material updates intended to make it more comfortable and durable for skateboarding.
A SKU (DR5415-106) and full colorway of “Summit White/Varsity Red/Neutral Grey/Gum Yellow” had been obtained, but it’s possible the information was merely a placeholder and that the sneakers hadn’t yet gone into production. It’s also plausible there was simply a miscommunication in the leaked information, which is always subject to change.
Despite the reported cancelation of the red pair, fans can still look forward to the white/navy Nike SB x Air Jordan 4, which is due to be released during summer ’25.
