It’s been just over four months since LeBron James shared a first look at his latest signature shoe and today, Nike has officially unveiled the LeBron 22.
Debuting in a “Crown Jewel” colorway, James’ 22nd signature Nike sneaker continues the lower-cut chapter introduced on the LeBron 20. Its biggest design update is what Nike describes as a midfoot saddle construction, which uses guardrail-like stability wings sandwiched between the outsole and midsole that seamlessly connects with the upper’s Swoosh placement. Like many of James’ shoes, the LeBron 22 is cushioned with Zoom Air in both the forefoot and heel and gets added comfort from Cushlon 2.0 foam.
Similar to its predecessor, the LeBron 22 will mix premium materials with performance technologies, which Nike says is a nod to James’ personal style.
“We engineered the LeBron 22 to match his powerful and agile playing style,” Ross Klein, Nike senior director of men’s basketball footwear product design, said in a press release. “To move with the force and precision LeBron needs, we focused on delivering maximum lockdown control, all while maintaining the speed, lightweight feel and court connection that he’s loved in his recent signature models.”
The debut LeBron 22 “Crown Jewel” colorway, which features a mix of “White/Medium Ash/Hot Lava/Volt Glow,” is inspired by James’ relationship with his youngest son, Bryce. It’s meant to acknowledge how James adapts to the “pressures of being a professional athlete and a parent to win in all facets of his life,” according to Nike.
In addition to the inaugural “Crown Jewel” look, one of the early LeBron 22 styles expected to be released is a collaboration with Hasbro inspired by the classic board game Monopoly. The Monopoly collaboration has been seen in both multicolor and blue-based looks.
The Nike LeBron 22 “Crown Jewel” will be released Nov. 1 from nike.com and select Nike Basketball retailers for $180. Readers can find a detailed look at the upcoming pair below.
