Ahead of the Memphis Grizzlies’ playoff opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Ja Morant took his habit of leaking his own sneakers to a new level by revealing his next signature shoe.
The Nike Ja 3 instantly arrives as the most dynamic shoe in the series. Debuted in a pink and purple “Max Volume” colorway, the sneaker features a series of clawmarks wrapping around the entire upper and extending across the midsole as TPU overlays. A slanted green Swoosh has the character of jade and forms a “JA” mark alongside a two slashes that meet in a point.
“I told the Nike design team I needed something that talks before I even lace it up,” Morant said in a release. “I wanted my third signature shoe to feel like my game and my personality. I told them, ‘Don’t be scared. Push it. Make it rugged, make it different.’ And they ran with it.”
Morant posted videos to Instagram Saturday night of him seeing the shoe for the first time, which was coordinated with an official blast from Nike with studio imagery. The following afternoon, while wearing the shoe for the first time, Morant and his Grizzlies were blown out by the Thunder 131-80.
Although technical specifications are still to come, it is confirmed that full-length ZoomX cushioning will make its first appearance in Morant’s signature line.
Scratches have made appearances in select editions of the Ja 1 and Ja 2, including a limited-edition Swarovski collaboration on the latter model. And while his signature series has fared relatively well, it’s also drawn a fare share of criticism for being relatively familiar and safe.
The Nike Ja 3 “Max Volume” will release August 15, likely through the Snkrs app and select third-party retailers. Footwear News will keep you updated as more information on the sneaker becomes available.
