One of Nike’s most iconic cross-training shoes is set for a comeback and fans won’t have to wait long for a chance to pick them up.
The Nike Air Trainer SC High, first released in 1990 and made famous by two-sport star Bo Jackson, will return next month in its original white, blue and orange “Auburn” colorway. Similar to Jackson’s ability to excel in both baseball and football, the Air Trainer SC High was designed to handle a wide variety of exercises and regimens. It was one of the brand’s earliest cross-training shoes and helped solidify Jackson’s sneaker legacy.
Although it wasn’t named after Jackson, the Air Trainer SC High is considered to be one of his signature sneakers, along with models like the Air Trainer SC 2 and Air Trainer Max ’91. The Air Trainer SC high did away with the support straps seen on prior models, instead opting for a technology dubbed Web-Tec which was overlaid on the lateral and medial sides of the shoe.
The “Auburn” Air Trainer SC High gets its nickname from Jackson’s alma mater. Although the colors aren’t a one-to-one match with the Tigers — the shades featured on the sneaker are brighter — it’s a moniker that has stuck for 35 years. It’s arguably Jackson’s definitive sneaker and is the most famous colorway of the Air Trainer SC High, although the original “Raiders” colorway is a close second.
One of Nike’s more requently reissued retro sneakers, the “Auburn” Air Trainer SC High was last available in 2022. Those who weren’t able to get their hands on them then will soon have another chance as the pair is set to be released in May. Current info points to a May 1 launch at a retail price of $130, but it’s possible the date could change. The sneaker’s full colorway is “White/Light Zen Gray/Tart” and its SKU is DV2212-100.
