Despite its limited availability thus far, Nike’s updated “Big Bubble” Air Max 95 retro has been largely well received by enthusiasts. And after returning in its original “Neon” colorway this month, the model will soon release in another popular look, beginning what’s expected to be a flood of Air Max 95 styles throughout 2025 and beyond.
Due to be released soon is the Nike Air Max 95 “Pink Foam.” Although it’s not an original colorway from 1995 like the aforementioned “Neon,” the “Pink Foam” is nonetheless coveted by fans of the retro running shoe. Like the “Neon,” the “Pink Foam” features a synthetic suede gradient fade upper that shifts from black to gray. A hazy pink shade fills in the accents on the lace loops, Air units and branding, essentially replacing the “Neon” portions of the previously released look.
Although it didn’t arrive on time for Air Max Day in March, this year’s retooled Air Max 95 has been one of the most discussed Nike sneakers of the year. Purists have scrutinized the finer points, but the overall consensus is that the “Big Bubble” is a noticeable improvement compared to Air Max 95 reissues of the last decade. Not only does the ’25 model more closely resemble the original version visually, but it’s also been praised for its on-foot comfort.
The “Pink Foam” Air Max 95 colorway was introduced in 2020 and was popular with fans of the classic gradient look although it wasn’t an immediate hit. The sneaker’s popularity was boosted after it was worn in 2022 by Kim Kardashian.
Kith founder Ronnie Fieg took to X Saturday to share his thoughts on the “Big Bubble” iteration. “After comparing this year’s retro to the original from 95, they really brought back the original shape and last from that era. And even though some people say the big bubble isn’t that noticeable, it actually makes a huge difference when wearing, both visibly and physically. Way more comfortable. I can finally wear 95’s all day again. Big win for Nike here,” Fieg wrote.
For those wondering how these OG neons compare to the OG originals and retros from the past… At first, I thought the the toe was too bulbous and it threw me off a bit. I wore them for a full day and was really surprised how much more comfortable they were than the last few…
