Nike’s Unreleased Glow-in-the-Dark Foamposite Will Have a Lot of Sneakerheads Begging for a Release

Sharing the same home base as Nike, the sneaker consignment store Index often finds itself in possession of rare samples that have never been released. It was the source of the “Yankees” Air Foamposite One sample that’s tantalized sneakerheads this week, and the Portland shop has quickly followed it up by revealing another alluring pair of Foams.

The Nike Air Foamposite One Pro “Glow in the Dark” sample not only does what its name says but does so with a distinct interpretation of the Air Jordan 3’s signature elephant print. White and black form the upper’s ornamented pattern under normal lighting conditions, which then glows green in darkness along with the milky white eyestay. Lightly green-tinted laces tip off the novelty, and the outsole is rendered in translucent and colorless rubber.

An Air Foamposite One Pro with the traditional elephant print did release in 2014, but without the glow-in-the-dark capabilities and with pink accents. It’s unclear when this newly emerged sample hails from, but there’s nothing vague about its appeal, as it sold in less than a minute for a mere $2,500.

The Air Foamposite One Pro is differentiated from the Air Foamposite One by the large Swoosh embedded in its molded upper, as well as a lack of Penny Hardaway branding. Functionally, though, they’re the same sneaker, and they otherwise look the same. The Pro also has less of a history of taken on patterns, with a “Comic Print” sample being the only known pair with such a treatment outside of the two previously mentioned.

Nike has put a greater emphasis on the Air Foamposite One this year, with the highly celebrated return of the “Galaxy” edition from 2012 serving as a catalyst. New “Psychic Blue” and “Carbon Fiber” colorways are in the pipeline, and a “Baroque Brown” Air Flightposite reminiscent of chocolate could be in the pipeline for 2025 as well.
