Nike Is Bringing Back One of Its Most Futuristic Sneakers in All-Black
After bringing back the original “Metallic Gold” colorway in October, Nike is once again dipping into its Air Flightposite archive to reissue another original style of the ahead-of-its-time retro basketball sneaker.
Confirmed for a Friday release is the Nike Air Flightposite “Triple Black,” which is returning for the first time since 2008. Purists may notice that there are small changes to the 2025 iteration, which replaces silver and white accents for a fully black look, but this is as close as most will come to the original without purchasing a vintage pair that could potentially fall apart due to age.
Like other Air Flightposites released since the 2010s, this upcoming iteration also featured a slimmed-down medial midsole, but it doesn’t appear that Nike will be reverting to the original look any time soon.

Originally released in 1999, the Air Flightposite was (and still is) a standout amongst Nike’s numerous futuristic Foamposite offerings. In that era, the shoe was built for pure performance, combining a durable Foamposite shell with details inspired by Gary Payton’s Air Zoom Flight The Glove sneaker. Like that shoe, the Air Flightposite used a stretchy, Lycra shroud over its laces and a zipper closure, which designer Eric Avar described as “more industrial” than the zipper used on The Glove.
The futuristic model was released in eye-catching colorways such as the aforementioned iridescent “Metallic Gold” and a purple “Eggplant,” the latter of which was also used for a rarely seen custom Kobe Bryant exclusive. And on court, the Air Flightposite was worn by NBA legends including Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan.
The ’25 version of the “Triple Black” Nike Air Flightposite is confirmed to be released Friday, Feb. 28 for a retail price of $240. It will be available from Nike’s SNKRS platform/app at 10 a.m. ET and can also be found from select Nike Sportswear retailers. The sneaker’s SKU is FV5582-001.
