Deion Sanders‘ third Nike sneaker is getting one of its loudest colorways to date, but it’s an expression of affection rather than the flashiness for which Primetime is well known.
The Nike Air DT Max 96 “Love Letter to Connie” is an all-red tribute to Sanders’ mom, Connie Knight, that will release just ahead of Mother’s Day. A two-tone look as achieved through a rosy hue for the sole unit and the upper’s leather base, which gives way to a classic shade of red for its nubuck overlays and the rest of the sneaker. Branding pops out in white, including a tiny Swoosh beneath the collar with pink outlines and the dual-sport tongue logo that only recently made its return after Sanders reunited with Nike.
Although photos of the full insole haven’t been revealed, a birds-eye view shows a special cursive text hit of “Love You M…,” which is likely completed by either “Mother” or “mom.”
Sanders is effusive in his praise for his mother, who raised him along with his stepfather Willie Knight. In a video posted to his Instagram at the beginning of the year, Sanders recalled how his mother would drive six hours two watch his home games for Florida Sate University and even had him save his laundry for weeks so she could do it for him.
Earlier this month, he wished “Mamma Prime” a happy birthday on Instagram with the caption: “Happy Birthday to the Greatest Mother in the game. My mama just wanted me to make it & she always told me to stay out the streets, don’t do no drugs or drink, don’t get these girls pregnant & work hard & be great at whatever you do. She Never tried to run my life, sabotage my relationships, stay in my pockets, be seen & heard, find the camera or Cause drama so she could come to the rescue. My mama old school but not an old fool and she ain’t worked since “89” because I retired her in advance for being apart of my peace.”
The Nike Air DT Max 96 “Love Letter to Connie” will release May 7, four days prior to Mother’s Day, through the Snkrs app and select third-party retailers. Pricing is set at $170.
