New Balance‘s wheel of Made in USA sneakers is about to make its next turn, as the Teddy Santis-led line has announced its nine sneakers for its spring collection.
The 992 and 990v6 are the dominant models of the assortment, with each to get four colorways across the coming months. The outlier of the mix is the 997, which will kick off the releases alongside a 992 next week.
A tonal mix of brown and grey define the 997 “Light Mushroom,” stands apart with a gridded pattern bringing more definition to its vamp. Greyish brown suede forms the majority of the upper, and the exposed foam tongue and paneling above the toe make use of a shaggier suede in brown.
The 992, which just returned to New Balance’s slate after a three-year hiatus, is dominated by a mix of greys in its “Moonrock” colorway through the suede, hairy suede, mesh and leather that makes up its upper. It’ll eventually be followed by a range that continues to be made up largely of neutral tones.
More color will come when the 990v6 releases commence, as its four options include one in navy and another in seafoam green. The remaining two variants are a version similar to the “Moonrock” 992 and an icy white pair with blue and green accents.
New Balance’s Made in USA line, of which Aimé Leon Dore founder Teddy Santis took charge in 2021, sees its sneakers made with at least 70 percent of their domestic value from the U.S. It’s known for it its higher quality along with the Made in UK and Made in Japan lines.
The New Balance 997 “Light Mushroom” and 992 “Moonrock” will kick off the New Balance Made in USA spring releases Thursday, March 27, through New Balance’s website and select third-party retailers. The 997 is priced at $190 and the 992 $200. Look for the rest of the sneakers to release in the coming months.
