This month, New Balance introduced the Allerdale Made in UK, a $250 walking shoe with an appearance skipping right past dadcore and going straight to grandpacore. The elderly package belieing its comfort-oriented tech has sold out almost all sizes in its brown launch colorway, but another chance at the fuss-free sneaker is on the way soon.
The New Balance Allerdale Made in UK will release in white in early April. Once again, the upper is rendered entirely in pebbled leather. The white upper only gives slight contrast to grey branding and eyelets, while the sole unit arrives in a creamy off-white to maintain the monochrome theme.
Beneath the humble exterior, which bears a strong resemblance to New Balance’s T500 tennis shoe from the ’80s and a few Mephisto models, FuelCell cushioning works in conjunction with an Ortholite insole to deliver on the notions of comfort suggested by an out-and-out walking shoe. Each pair is handmade in New Balance’s Flimby, U.K. factory, justifying a price tag that may surprise you at first appearance.
New Balance has, of course, been boosted in no small part because of the combination of comfort and appeasements to normcore/dadcore/etc. trends offered by its many retro running running models. So it should be no surprise that followers have quickly launched onto the Allerdale, which seems both cheeky and highly practical. While you’re at it, you can easily throw into the quiet luxury trend as well.
The New Balance Allerdale Made in UK “White” has been confirmed to release April 4 through select third-party retailers, and a drop directly from New Balance’s site will likely come simultaneously or soon after. Pricing is set at $250.
