MSCHF’s Black Follow-Up to the Big Red Boot Will Release in October

MSCHF’s Big Red Boot family is about to get bigger.

The Big Black Boot, the viral footwear’s third iteration, first surfaced on social media as the Brooklyn-based art collective has sent pairs to select influencers. Unlike the Big Yellow Boot — an official Crocs collaboration that saw the shoe take on the signature cut-outs and strap of the Classic Clog — the Big Black Boot returns to the silhouette’s original formula and is just that, big and black.

The boot’s construction is simple, as a beefy TPU rubber shell hosts an EVA sole unit. Few can forget just how viral the Big Red Boots were when they made their debut earlier this year, and the hardest thing to believe is that we’re still in the same calendar year as Big Red Boot mania.

Inspired by the boots worn by the Japanese manga character Astro Boy, MSCHF‘s Big Red Boots grabbed attention for their cartoonish appearance and being worn by celebrities including Ciara, WWE wrestler Seth Rollins, Lil Wayne, Janelle Monae, budding NBA superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and more. Paris Hilton then starred in the campaign for the Big Yellow Boots collaboration with Crocs.

Resale prices for the Big Red Boot hit the $1,000 range on platforms such as StockX at the height of its virality, but after the latest restock, you can still get a pair directly from MSCHF for the retail price of $350.

For the Big Black Boot’s campaign, MSCHF enlisted celebrity stylist Mitch Modes as the model. Modes is known for the dark, goth aesthetic he’s brought to a list of clients including Playboi Carti and The Weeknd.

In August, Bape sent MSCHF’s boot down the runway with the Japanese brand’s signature Cloud Camo print. It was neither an collaboration nor are there any plans yet for a public release, but MSCHF did sign off on the customization and provided Bape with the boots to make it happen.

MSCHF’s Big Black Boot, officially being referred to as the Big Red Boot (Black), will release Oct. 26 through both its website and its Sneakers app. Pricing is set at $350.
