Dr. Martens has launched its Lowell Collection, resurrecting an archival silhouette fit for the post-sneaker generation.
Retailing for $170, the revamped silhouette is inspired by traditional workwear shoes, crafted for everyday wear and built for contemporary culture. Capitalizing on wearability and timelessness, the footwear design draws from design cues from across the history of footwear, resulting in an immensely versatile silhouette.
Coming in “Black,” “Olive,” “Tan Suede” and “Orleans” colorways, the Lowell style is crafted of premium leather or textural suede and can be likened to a traditional Oxford silhouette. Stitched detailing along the sides imparts a rustic feel while lace-up closures and almond-shaped moccasin toes harken to silhouettes of the past.
Padded collars and leather pull tabs offer the shoe comfort and ease of wear, creating a style that wearers will re-wear again and again. Set atop rugged Dr. Martens’ Ben soles, the Lowell also features the brand’s signature yellow welt stitching, offering an instantly recognizable touch. Worn with painter pants, denim or dresses, the silhouette can dress up simplistic ensembles while dressing down more formal pieces.
Founded in 1947, Dr. Martens is a German-founded British footwear and apparel brand with individuality at its core. The company originally began making humble workwear boots and even sold their wear as gardening shoes at one point. The inventor of Dr. Martens Klaus Marten was a doctor in the German Army during World War II. The brand’s name references the inventor’s former profession.
Throughout Dr. Martens’ history, the brand has been adopted and subverted by diverse individuals, musicians, youth cultures and tribes. These are the people who stand out from the crowd and their journey of self-expression has always been accompanied by a pair of DM’s.
The Lowell launched on Thursday at drmartens.com.
