Comme des Garçons previewed its latest sneaker tie-up with Nike at its fall/winter 2024 menswear show in Paris on Friday.
For its latest shoe collab with Nike, CDG has tackled the athletic giant’s Air Max TL 2.5 sneaker, first introduced in 2006. According to Comme des Garçons, rather than just making a different colorway of the Air Max TL 2.5, the brand has decided to “refine” the design by cleaning up some of the components of the original version.
Some of the elements that CDG has refined in the Air Max TL 2.5 include removing the big Nike swoosh and reducing it to a small, subtle swoosh on the upper. The brand has also decided to tuck the shoelaces into the interior of the shoes to have a streamlined upper appearance.
Other features in the sneakers include a puffy tongue and adding matte black and matte white Air Max air-packs to further make the shoe’s look more uniform.
The new Comme des Garçons x Nike Air Max TL 2.5 sneaker was seen on the runway in two colorways, an all-white version and a black and white colorway. The styles are slated to drop later this year.
Aside from its newest release with Nike, Comme des Garçons has teamed up once again with Japanese footwear brand Kids Love Gaite and its designer Shintaro Yamamoto on another pair of unusually designed dress shoes.
Building on its double-shoe theme from their spring/summer 2024 collaboration where Kids Love Gaite made a derby style dress shoe with two toe boxes, this season features a shoe with two soles.
For fall/winter 2024, the duo has created a lace-up brogue with a second exaggerated sole that juts out from the side of the shoe. The dress shoe model, which featured wingtip detailing, was seen on the runway in two colorways, a traditional black style and a snakeskin printed leather version.
