Caroline Hu’s Adidas Samba Sneakers Are Covered in Lace Ruffles and Silk

LVMH Young Designer Award finalist and Chinese rising star Caroline Hu is adding her name to the list of Adidas Samba collaborators.
The Reverie by Caroline Hu x Adidas Samba sneakers opt for a soft and delicate aesthetic with lace and silk forming ruffled uppers. Hu’s collection features two different versions of the classic sneaker, one that keeps its ruffles relatively tight and another that billows out so far that it’s quickly drawn comparison to loofahs.
The more muted take on the Samba will release in three colorways, one of which arrives in pink with light accents. Adidas‘ staple black-and-white and white-and-black treatments then form the other two. All three feature a dark gum cupsole and a co-branded tongue tag, which appears in pink in the colorway of the same color and blue for the other two. Both the striping and mustache retain their familiar leather construction.

Hu’s more dramatic Sambas then arrive in options for black-and-white and blue-and-white. Adidas’ Three Stripes motif is incorporated into the lace frills, while the more typically leather features can still be seen through the tongue and mustache.
Clot founder Edison Chen, who decamped to Adidas from Nike earlier this year, facilitated the collection through his brand’s Shanghai Fashion week show last year for spring 2024. Because of the connection, the Clot-affiliated Juice store is the only confirmed stockist so far.
The Reverie by Caroline Hu x Adidas Sambas will release May 24 through Juice’s website and WeChat, as well as its Central, Shanghai and Guangzhou stores in China. Pricing has not yet been announced.
