Awake NY and Converse have linked up for the first time, and their debut collaborative effort will yield new-look One Star Pro sneakers.
The heritage athletic footwear brand said the collection with Awake NY, which also includes apparel, “celebrates the burgeoning skate and alternative music scene that blossomed in New York City in the early ‘90s, which coincided with Converse’s reintroduction of the 1974 All Star as the One Star.”
“The One Star always connects back to the early ‘90s punk and alternative artists I really admired, whether it be Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins or the Beastie Boys — music that typically you wouldn’t assume people where I’m from would listen to, or wear a pair of the One Star,” Angelo Baque, founder of Awake NY, said in a statement.
He continued, “If you wore a pair of One Stars back then, you didn’t subscribe to the social norms.”

The collection features three iterations of the One Star Pro: black, blue and white. Embroidered on the lateral side of the vintage suede uppers is Awake NY’s script logo, and the partnership is brought together via co-branded sockliners and license plates.
In terms of performance, Converse said the One Star Pro is designed for skateboarders and is equipped with Cons traction rubber outsoles and molded CX sockliners for board feel and impact cushioning, respectively. Also, Converse explained that the shoe’s low profile adds tonal flexibility and the rubber-backed suede uppers offers durability.
Aside from the sneakers, Awake NY and Converse teamed up on a three-piece range of functional apparel that includes a cotton jersey rugby shirt with satin-stitch embroidery branding, a two-toned fleece hoodie with a blue contrast hood and a cotton jersey T-shirt.
The Awake NY x Converse collection arrives via Awake on Oct. 6. A broader release from Converse will follow on Oct. 12.
Converse has revealed several eye-catching looks as of late. For instance, the brand debuted its “Dia de Muertos” collection last week, which includes the Chuck 70 and Chuck Taylor All Star Lift. Also, the brand revealed its Run Star Legacy Chelsea Boot CX. The look, which is available now via Converse.com in men’s and women’s sizes, comes with a $130 price tag.
