The Original Air Jordan 1 “Shadow” Sneaker Will Return in October With a Satin Makeover

Following the lead of last year's "Satin Bred" AJ1 High.

For the second October in a row, an original Air Jordan 1 colorway will get a satin makeover.

The Air Jordan 1 High “Satin Shadow” is slated to release near the beginning of the month with its namesake fabric replacing the sneaker’s typical leather upper. Other than the material swap, which gives the AJ1 a new sheen, the sneaker largely maintains the OG look from 1985. The upper maintains its usual black and grey color-blocking, but a white midsole now sits atop a grey outsole rather than black.

“Shadow” was one of nine Air Jordan 1 High colorways to release in September 1985, months after the seminal model made its debut on shelves in the black and red “Bred” scheme. After its initial release, the AJ1 “Shadow” didn’t return as a retro until 2009. It’s since returned again in 2013 and 2018 with its standard leather build, and a Flyknit version also dropped in 2018. Aleali May took on the colorway in 2017 as well, rendering the Swoosh in chenille, the remaining silver panels in satin and the black panels in corduroy.

Watch on FN

The Air Jordan 1 “Satin Bred” from last October was met with a relatively tepid response, as it didn’t sell out and was later made available at a discount. Lukewarm fanfare also met the suede Air Jordan 1 “Royal Reimagined” from November 2023, proving the limit of appeal for original Air Jordan 1 colorways when the model is subject to so many different variants.

The Air Jordan 1 High “Satin Shadow” will release October 5 through the Snkrs app and select third-party retailers. Pricing is set at $180, and sizing will likely be exclusive to women just like the “Satin Bred” variant.
