Adidas Is Bringing Back Its Modernized Samba Millennium Sneaker

Adidas will continue to capitalize on the Samba craze through offshoots by bringing back a modernized version of the sneaker originally released in 2009.
The Samba Millennium, which was the subject of an Adsum collaboration last year, appears set for a broader return, as revealed by photos from the boutique Bait. Remade for indoor soccer 15 years ago, the model essentially looks like a mash-up of the Samba and the Pro Model 2G basketball sneaker. Recognizable elements from the original Samba include the jagged stripes, as well as the shape of the toe tip and mustache. A new (in 2009) sole unit makes use of EVA foam and a Torsion plate for better performance, but the gum half of its construction continues to anchor the Samba Millennium in the past.
Two staple coloways will usher in the Samba Millennium’s return: black and white, and white and black. Adsum’s version of the sneaker, which mixed a “Nutmeg Beige” with grey, black and white, is also still available in select sizes.

Much like we’ve seen Nike do with the Air Force 1 and Air Jordan 1, Adidas has created several spinoff versions of the Samba, including the puffed-up Samba XLG and platform Sambae. Although the Samba Millennium was already in the brand’s archives, it never made much noise away from the indoor fields for which it was designed — giving it ample opportunity for a new life.
The Adidas Millennium will release in its white and black colorways May 2 through the Adidas website. Pricing is set at $150.
