Adidas Is Once Again Taking Lessons From Wales Bonner With Its Own Pony Hair Sambas
Adidas borrowed a page from its Wales Bonner collaborations by dropping its own leopard print pony hair Sambas earlier this month, and the result was a smash hit. Coming off of the rapid sellouts, the German brand will once again return to well with a new take on pony hair.
The pony hair Adidas Sambas are returning without leopard print but instead a duo of sumptuous monochromatic colorways that could suggest a fashion label’s involvement. A white and black pair, dubbed “Wonder White Pony,” sees white pony hair form the bulk of the upper and offset by black suede stripes and a mustache that are inlaid rather than raised. Contrast cross stitches on the former region bring another sense of refinement, and the cupsole arrives in black.
A more complex color scheme otherwise follows the same formula for the “Sand Strata Pony” version. Burgundy pony hair claims the most territory, while the stripes make use of pink suede and the mustache cream. The cupsole then arrives in classic gum.
Wales Bonner‘s renowned Samba collaborations played a role in the retro silhouette’s wider domination, but never has the halo effect been as physically tangible as in Adidas’ turn to more experimental in-line variants. Momentum for the silhouette’s trendiness also appeared to be dying down, but this recent development suggests there’s still some life left.
The new crop of Adidas pony hair Sambas doesn’t yet have a release date in the States, but that will likely change soon, as overseas retailers are beginning to release the set. Pricing for both variants is set at $120.
