Adidas Originals has teamed up with Australian fashion brand Song for the Mute on their third collaborative capsule collection which features the SFTM-003 sneaker reimagined in three new colorways.
Inspired by classic 90’s footwear designs, the release of the SFTM-003 sneaker was crafted to look and feel nostalgic. The shoes, available in pale gray and teal nylon as well as black leather with suede detailing, are reminiscent of vintage wind-breakers.
Additionally, the sneakers are adorned with tactile details such as metallic D-ring hardware and a custom paracord-inspired toggle lacing system, further aiding in the desired feelings of futuristic nostalgia.
The collection also includes eight garments designed to experiment with new uses of textile development. The pieces, mostly outerwear, are all customized with inventive fabrication techniques and saturated colorways.
The sherpa fleece zip-up jackets, available in black and cream colorways, are made with digital printed contrast sleeves and embellished with logo embroidery. The distressed jersey hoodies, available in brown and teal, as well as the oversized blazer and press-stud track pants, available in black and stripped colorways, were crafted using a lightweight coated cotton. Lastly, the custom jacquard knitwear piece is finished with intricate contrasting color-work.
Lyna Ty, Creative Director of Song for the Mute, typically approaches design by re-interpreting traditional heritage silhouettes with modernist fabrication and detailing. The release of this collection follows the success of two previous collaborations between Adidas Originals and Song for the Mute in September of 2022 and October of 2023 which were also made up of reinvented footwear styles and matching apparel.
The brand’s first collection featured three colorways of the Adidas Originals Shadowturf sneaker along with sportswear staples in new rosey hues. The second collaboration between the brands featured just one reinterpreted version of Adidas’ iconized Campus sneaker silhouette.
The Adidas Originals x Song for the Mute collaboration will be available to purchase with the rollout of Song for the Mute’s spring 2024 collection.
