German athletic giant Adidas and the popular video game Minecraft have just announced a multi-year collaboration kicking off with an apparel and footwear collection inspired by the film “A Minecraft Movie.”
The capsule collection, catering to both children and adults, showcases Adidas‘ famous Superstar basketball shoe with a Minecraft twist. The brand’s Three Stripes are redone with serrated edges and earth-toned pixels decorate other parts of the upper. A lace-up Superstar is offered as well as a triple strap velcro iteration, with each fastening option having its own Minecraft flair (a charm on the laces and a little graphic design on each strap). The Minecraft logo is featured on the shoes as well.
The Superstar is one of Adidas’ most iconic shoes to date and remains a classic canvas for the brand to decorate or reimagine. Footwear News named it one of the Greatest Shoes of All Time in 2024.
Some of the apparel options in the Adidas x Minecraft collection include a fringy pink jacket, a track suit set and graphic tees paying homage to Minecraft motifs. In addition to physical products for sale, the collaboration, which released on Tuesday, also features in-game activations.
“A Minecraft Movie” features a starry cast including Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers and Sebastian Hansen. The film follows four misfits who are transported through a portal to a cubic wonderland called the Overworld, which is powered by imagination. The release date is set for Friday in the U.S.
