Adidas has unveiled Anthony Edwards‘ first signature sneaker, the AE 1.
The performance basketball sneaker was revealed over the weekend as part of a homecoming event for Edwards in Atlanta. Technical details for the shoe are still light, but says it’ll say more about the shoe in December.
“The launch of the AE 1 is without a doubt, one of the pinnacles of my career and life to date, Edwards said in a press release. “Having the support of adidas Basketball, joining basketball legends who I’ve looked up to on their roster, is a dream come true. This is just the beginning — believe that.”
Eric Wise, global general manager of Adidas Basketball, added: “Anthony Edwards is the true definition of what it means to be a superstar. His journey is already legendary, representing hope, determination, and boundless potential to so many — and his future promises to shine even brighter. Ant’s unstoppable athleticism, love for the game, commitment to his family, and unwavering loyalty make him one of one, and Adidas is thrilled to welcome him to our signature roster.”
Edwards joins Adidas’ roster of signature athletes that also includes James Harden, Damian Lillard, Trae Young, and Donovan Mitchell. The Minnesota Timberwolves is coming off his third season, in which he averaged 24.6 points, 4.4 assists, and 5.8 rebounds, all career highs, in addition to making his second-consecutive playoff appearance.
Adidas describes the AE 1 as “a futuristic design with meticulous precision, built to the specifications of Anthony Edwards.” Images of the shoe tell us it’ll have a sock-like fit around the ankle and a massive panel extending from the midsole through the majority of the upper for security. A bulbous heel counter also looks to make use of carbon fiber.
