Adidas’ Best Super Shoe Just Got More Cushioning and Is Still Just as Light

The Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2 is tied with its predecessor as the lightest running shoe ever made by Adidas.

Adidas’ top-of-the-line super shoe has been improved while still coming in (tied) as the lightest running shoe the company has ever made.

The Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2 will launch this weekend in limited numbers to coincide with the London Marathon. It features 3mm more of Lighstrike Pro Evo foam than the Adios Evo 1 and yet still comes in at the exact same weight of 138 grams for a men’s size 9.5. This translates to a 10 percent increase in stack height (39mm at the heel dropping to 36mm at the forefoot) and five percent greater energy return.

Since its debut in September 2023, the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1 was worn for six first-place positions at World Marathon Majors, including Tigist Assefa’s world-record women’s race at the 2023 Berlin Marathon. No other super shoe has been worn by Marathon Major winners in that time.

“The design process for this shoe was a challenging but ultimately rewarding pursuit that started with simply looking at how we can make the fastest shoe we’ve ever created, even faster–all whilst keeping the weight consistent,” Patrick Nava, adidas vice president of Running and Credibility Sports, said in a press release. “The Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2 is born from our relentless pursuit of speed–refined through rigorous testing–from the high-altitude training camps in Iten, Kenya to our innovation labs in Herzogenaurach. We believe we’ve delivered the best experience yet and can’t wait to see possibly the fastest shoe we’ve ever created flying on the road during marathon season.”

In addition to the souped up midsole, the Adios Pro Evo 2 also features a reimagined outsole with a grid-like pattern targeting the forefoot. The Forefoot rocker is once again placed at 60 percent of the shoe’s length, and the upper brings a slight aesthetic evolution from its predecessor and maintains the same oversized striping.

” Having broken the women’s marathon world record in the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1, I couldn’t wait to try the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2 — and I have been blown away by the experience,” Assefa said. “It offers incredible lightness while providing energy return and bounce underfoot, giving me a feeling of comfort and confidence to focus on running my best race.”

The Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2 will release in silver and red Friday, April 25, through sign-ups on the Adidas website. A wider launch will follow later this year, and pricing is set once again at $500.
