Victor Cruz Talks Signature Nike Sneakers & Challenging Kanye West

Kanye West, watch out. New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz is set to debut his first signature sneaker with Nike on Nov. 20, and the self-described sneakerhead told Footwear News that he’s ready to take on the Yeezy.
Recently, Cruz revealed the first colorway in his collection on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” and he again wore the wheat-colored Haystack version of the kicks last night at the Foot Locker “On Our Feet” charity gala in New York. For that event, he paired the sneakers with a slim-cut burgundy suit for a perfect fall ensemble.
The athlete revealed to FN that there are even more exciting styles to come from his four-piece collection for Nike.
Do you have a favorite shoe in the collection?

“There’s a colorway that is dear to my heart because it honors my dad and has some pieces in there that honor him. But other than that, I love all the colorways.”
Are your teammates and friends now asking for pairs?
“They are just inundating me with requests — for sizes, for what colors they want — the whole bit.”
But they have to give to get, right?
“Absolutely, they understand that. So, you know, we’re negotiating some fees.”
When you talked to us last year, you had just started creating the shoes. What was the whole process like?
“It was long, but it was fun to see all the stages — to be as hands-on as I was about what materials we’re using, what tooling, what lacing. All that intricate detail. To be a part of that and see it come to life was a lot of fun.”
So now are you giving Kanye a run for his money?
“We’ll see. [Laughs] I just want people to love my shoe. If it happens to be in competition, then so be it. We’ll just have to see.”
