Reebok’s Allen Iverson Answer IV Reissue Shows How 2000s Style Is Alive and Well

For those of us who grew up in the early 2000s watching basketball players like Allen Iverson or Shaq play, there are few companies that illicit a sense of nostalgia like Reebok with its powerful roster at the time. Those stars, and more, had huge deals for their own signature shoes with the brand. Reebok continues to pay tribute to one of its boldface names with Iverson’s the Answer IV.

Since its release in 2000, the style has been retroed in various colorways over the years. And today, the latest version has arrived. Maintaining the silhouette’s core DNA, it features a color-blocked red and black finish, with a subtle blending of the two hues at the heel.

The men’s-only style is available in sizes seven to 11, as well as select half sizes.

The Answer IV was the signature shoe of Iverson, featuring a leather upper, traction rubber outsole, hook and loop strap for improved lockdown and a DMX foam midsole. To help players maintain stamina on the court, it also includes plush yet responsive cushioning underfoot. The most emblematic aspect of the shoe, however, continues to be its hidden lace closure with zip-up shroud — which ensures players never need to worry about laces coming untied during game time.

Iverson had one of the most tumultuous careers in NBA history, leading a team to the finals only once, in 2001. For the next decade he would become somewhat of a journeyman moving from team to team and generating controversy wherever he went. But besides his play, it was his style that left a lasting influence. Bucking the league standard of wearing a suit courtside, Iverson wore his street clothes to games, frequently getting him into trouble with the NBA commissioner.
