If something that’s mercurial means it needs to change often, well, a line of Nike kicks is living up to that very definition.
The company said it plans to release the Nike Mercurial Superfly Heritage iD cleat today in limited quantities on its own website.
The style, according to the Beaverton, Ore.-based company, “commemorates the famously bold boot’s rise.”
Nike said in a statement the offering “marries heritage colorways with premier performance updates, including a lightweight carbon-fiber plate for explosive speed.”
The athletic giant’s Flyknit and Dynamic Fit Collar technologies would enhance the feel of the cleats, as well as add a more secure feel.

Nike has been celebrating its Mercurial style of late. The company last week released 3,000 special edition “What the Mercurial” cleats to pay homage to the shoe’s history. The Mercurial debuted in 1998 — and has since been worn by soccer greats such as Brazil’s Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima and Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior.
The Mercurial Superfly, meanwhile, lets consumers put their own personal touches on them, with four different color combinations available.
In addition, shoppers can also add a number, up to five letters or one of 16 national flags on the side of the upper.
