It’s difficult to say who the Los Angeles Lakers’ rival is during the Kobe Bryant era. For Bryant’s five championships, he and his squad defeated longtime foe Boston Celtics as well as the Indiana Pacers, Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets and the Orlando Magic.
But the newest colorway of the latest Nike signature shoe for Bryant, the Kobe X Elite, the brand looks to a rival of the superstar guard before he became a pro.
According to the brand, the shoe was inspired by Bryant’s high school championship win in 1996 when he and his Lower Merion team defeated Cathedral Prep, a team that wore orange and black jerseys. The colors of his high school rival appear on his latest shoe.
The Flyknit upper features total orange on the outside and laser orange on the inside, with a tumbled gray toecap and a black swoosh. The shoe’s outsole is predominantly white with orange on the bottom, black near the toecap and a translucent overlay.
