Nike KD8 ‘Aunt Pearl’ Arrives Today
Nike and Kevin Durant have paid homage to the basketball star’s late aunt through his signature shoe line in the past, and have another shoe release in her memory on the way.
The Nike KD8 “Aunt Pearl” is in stores now and retails for $200. While showing respect to Durant’s late aunt, who died from lung cancer in 2000, the shoe will also support the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
The shoe features a vivid pink and hyper-turquoise floral print upper with a white midsole and a vivid pink translucent outsole. The shoe also features breast cancer ribbons on the heel counters and Kay Yow Cancer Fund branding on the inserts.
The KD8 is the first basketball shoe from Nike to use the brand’s Flyweave technology for the upper and a full-length Zoom Air unit. The shoe, designed by Leo Chang, features an atypical heel counter resembling teeth that was inspired by Durant’s saber-toothed tiger tattoo.

Nike has released a number of KD8 iterations late, including the one featured in the Basketball Royalty Collection (as seen on his feet during the NBA All-Star Game) and the Black History Month edition on Jan. 18.
