With today’s top ballers heading to Rio for the 2016 Summer Olympics, Nike is looking back 20 years for its next sneaker release to when Chicago Bulls legend Scottie Pippen and the 1996 men’s basketball team won the gold medal in Atlanta.
The Nike Air More Uptempo “Summer of ’96” arrives Wednesday via SNKRS in men’s sizing and will retail for $160. Kids’ sizing will also be available on nike.com with a $130 retail price.
Pippen wore the shoe for the team — referred to as “Dream Team II” — which featured members of the original Dream Team from 1992, such as Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, John Stockton and David Robinson. The 6-foot-7 forward traded the number 33 that adorned his Chicago jersey for 8 for the 1992 Olympic Games.
The retro silhouette features the same color palette as the original, boasting a midnight navy and white upper with the word “Air” adorning both sides of the shoe. It also features university red accents throughout the shoe, including the Swoosh branding on the tongue, and metallic gold on the “8” on each heel.
