New Balance Celebrates 20 Years Of The 580 Silhouette With Special Release

New Balance is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its MT580 silhouette with the release of the 580 Reengineered on Aug. 1 as part of its fall ’16 collection. To commemorate the silhouette’s anniversary, the Boston-based sneaker brand worked with fashion label Lease on Life Society and award-winning art and film studio Musuta for design inspiration.

Retailing for $120 on New Balance’s website, the Reengineered 580 will be available in two colorways — a white outsole and midsole that fades to black upper and navy blue upper that fades to a cement gray by the tongue and laces— in a jacquard textile that features a gradient from back to front.

In the video below, Musuta describes its inspiration in finding the balance between the patterns that resembled aged concrete and the organic particles of life.

The designers behind Lease on Life Society share in their video how the internet served as the main platform for their success.

Although designed as an off-road trail running shoe in 1996, the New Balance 580 attracted members of the global street fashion scene and has since continued to cater to consumers with a busy lifestyle. The release is the most recent addition to the brand’s latest #NBNumbers campaign.
